Application for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
We recognize that you may have previous experience or training, either in yoga or other disciplines, which would allow you to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). If you qualify for RPL, you may be able to
- be excused from some of the on-site classes at the start of a course
- be excused from some of the home study for a course
- demonstrate your acquired knowledge by taking the end-of-course assessments instead of the entire course
- receive full credit for an entire course
A frequently asked question is "If I have already completed a 200 hour training, can I enter directly into Yogic Studies 2 and Teacher Training 2?" The answer is usually no, for 2 major reasons: (1) this Teacher Training is specific to the Satyananda tradition and requires significant experience in that style and (2) our Yogic Studies 1 & Teacher Training 1 courses encompasses over 500 total hours, significantly more than the minimum required by Yoga Alliance and thus more than many 200 hour programs. However, your training may qualify you to receive RPL for certain parts of the courses, such as branches or marketing modules.
The successful RPL candidate will generally have
-
significant experience and/or training in SATYANANDA YOGA® including knowledge of the Pawanumktasana series, 8-stage Satyananda Yoga Nidra®, Kaya Sthairyam, and Antar Mouna
-
familiarity with the basic concepts of Yogic Physiology such as the chakras, nadis, prana, pancha vayus, and pancha koshas
-
background in Yoga Psychology, including antar karana; drashta; jagriti, swapna, nidra and turiya
-
experience with karma yoga
and/or documented training in theoretical and applied Anatomy & Physiology, such as a degree in physical therapy, radiologic technology, etc.
